Portal to the Park

King Abdullah II Park will incorporate a Youth Center within its premises, designed with an efficient rectangular layout that maximizes space utilization while maintaining flexibility. The architecture embodies a duality in both form and expression—a transparent glass upper level houses dynamic creative labs and incubators, symbolizing youth’s boundless potential, while a solid stone base reflects Jordan’s deep-rooted heritage and traditions. The design reinterprets traditional construction methods, transforming conventional stone cladding into a dynamic louver system on the upper levels.

Positioned as a gateway to the park, the building features a central portal that establishes a strong visual and physical connection between the interior spaces and the surrounding landscape. This prominent green axis not only unifies the center with the park but also extends this connection to the broader urban context, positioning the Youth Center as a vital link between park and city.

Massing

1/4 Master Plan: This proposal builds on the assumption that the Master plan shall be developed in a different approach than the original design. The room is open for any future development of the park and the Youth Cen ter shall be a occupy an efficient rectangular shape with the full utilization of area required.

2/4 Gate to the Park, Rooted Grounds: The Youth Center shall act as a gate inviting the youth into the park, through an axis of green that penetrates and shapes the building ground floor. The ground floor, with it’s solid articulated facades reflects Jordan and Youth that is rooted to the region and it’s history. This proposal challenges the stone building techniques and utilizes them into a different sustainable approach.

3/4 Open to the Future: The first floor, housing more active spaces like incubation areas and creative labs is wrapped with a glass skin, symbolizing a youth that is open to the future. The solid rooted base carries this contemporary transparent mass.

4/4 Integrated with the Park: A court emphasizes the green axis connecting the people to the park and integrates green into the building mass. This allows more light and air to penetrate into the building. Moreover the stone cladding is elevated to the first floor in the shape of louvers, to create a sustainable skin, controlling the environment of the interior spaces.
